My Professional Background

As a Consultant Clinical Geneticist, I established my private practice, Schell Genetics, in London in December 2020. Additionally, since August 2021, I have served as an honorary consultant at St George’s University Hospital in London (NHS).

My journey in genetics began in 1990, initially specialising as a resident physician in Human Genetics at institutions such as the University of Innsbruck and the Children's Centre Munich. My clinical and research experience includes extensive work on inherited brain malformations, particularly during my time as a research fellow at the renowned Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (2000-2002) and later at the Children's Centre Munich (2005-2006), supported by grants from the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Foundation.

From 2007 to 2020, I developed and ran my own Human Genetics practice at the DRK Clinics in Berlin, Germany, and subsequently served as Head of the Medicover Berlin-Westend Medical Care Unit. This extensive clinical and managerial experience has equipped me to provide comprehensive and empathetic genetic care.

I hold a full medical licence with specialist registration from the General Medical Council (GMC reference number: 7872914) in the UK and maintain active memberships in several esteemed professional bodies, including the Clinical Genetics Society (CGS), part of the British Society for Genetic Medicine (BSGM), the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), the British Medical Association (BMA), the Independent Doctors Federation (IDrF), the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG), and the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG). These affiliations underline my commitment to excellence in medical genetics.

My Areas of Expertise

My primary areas of specialisation include Paediatric Genetics, Oncogenetics (cancer genetics), Reproductive Genetics, and Neurogenetics. However, I warmly welcome and support any genetic questions you may have, offering tailored consultations that meet your unique needs and concerns.
